This evening, we had a baseball game with our little league team. It was a lot of fun. (Side note: Jackson was sick and couldn't play, but his team played and prayed hard for him. Very cool). Anyway, back to the point. We try to teach our boys good sportsmanship to never talk trash and always say "good game" when it's over. One boy on the other team didn't get the memo on this today.
He was their first baseman and he was talking trash to one of our coaches and to our players. He was standing in their way so it was harder for them to round first base. But worst then all that, he refused to shake hands after the game and say "good game" or something positive. He just gave us all a "I ain't shaking your hand" kind of smurk and went about his night. It really was an ugly thing to see, especially since they lost. I honestly wanted to go over and spank his little butt, but I didn't.
Isn't arrogance one of the ugliest things we can get caught up in? It's so repulsive. I see it in my own heart at times and I can't stand it. It's one of those things that just smells to high heaven when we come across it. I hope that boy gets a lesson here soon that helps him get over it because if not, it's gonna be a long road.
I pray that I would always have a heart of humility and realize the world doesn't revolve around me. But I know who it does revolve around.
The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein, for he has founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Psalm 24:1-2

Read Job 38 (when God is questioning Job) and you'll see God's sarcasm towards Job and all his questioning to the Lord. Because God is perfect, it's done in love; but it's there. The little jabs to remind Job of who it is he's talking to. I needed that reminder today.

Let me explain. Last year when I was helping out with Jackson's little league baseball team, I sort of morphed into helping in the dugout, keeping the batting order and getting the boys ready for their turn, among other very important duties. :)I did not realize the position is usually called the "dugout mom" until it was put on a very nicely engraved trophy once the season was over. It was hilarious when I saw the engraving and we all had a good laugh about it.
Seriously though, I do wear the title with honor. I'm surrounded by godly coaches and precious kids to help learn about baseball, teamwork and life. I figured I'd jot some of the lessons I'm learning with it onto a computer and maybe someone would read it.
Lesson One: IT'S JUST BASEBALL
We played in a local tournament this weekend. It was an eye opener for sure. I'm so proud of our boys for playing their little butts off, but you'd think that the way some coaches, players, and especially crazy parents act at 7 & 8 year old baseball games, that there were a million dollars at stake or something. Nope. Just a good ole' "atta boy" once the tournament is over and maybe a trophy. Put those two together and you can't even buy a coke.
So, lesson one is fairly simple. It's just baseball people. YOUTH BASEBALL!! Settle down and let the boys play and grow and learn.
More lessons to come. :)
